THERMOMETERS AND BAROMETERS

With a slight twinge of conscience for fear of oversimplifying the two instruments mentioned, I think it is safe to say one tells us how cold or hot it is and the other tells us why. I can’t help but feel we have far too many thermometers and not enough barometers.

Hegel was right when he said that we learn from history that man can never learn anything from history. George Bernard Shaw

The news media seems to like pretending to have all the facts to get us excited and even mad sometimes but a true and exact reporting of how our society is doing demands more thorough research. It might sell less space but it could be less stressful to the readers. When the news tells about “all the kids” going to pot they need to scout for the “rest of the story” and tell about the kids who are doing great! CBS 60 Minutes recently told about some college students who were guilty of poor judgment but written off far too soon! Facts discovered after the incident told an entirely different story. If this was done once, could it be that far too many stories are taken for gospel and things might not be quite as bad (in our society) as we are led to believe. Hummm?
